Nas - Illmatic LP

Coming off the recent shooting death of his childhood friend and DJ, Willy β€˜Ill Will’ Graham, Nas recorded his debut solo single β€˜Halftime.’ The song garnered Nas the buzz necessary to enlist the help of legends DJ Premier, Large Professor, Q-Tip, and Pete Rock for the recording of his debut album - the now legendary, Illmatic.

Boom-bap beats and some of the finest soul and jazz sampling and turntablism ever put to wax, paired with a young Nas’ utterly flawless lyricism and flow, bring a weight to these tracks that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Often considered the best album to come out of the Golden Era of New York hip-hop, Illmatic is without a doubt Nas’ finest moment.
