Jim O'Rourke - Eureka LP

(Drag City, 1999)

Better known for his experimental work and production credits for artists like Smog, Superchunk, Joanna Newsom, and Stereolab, Jim O’Rourke has mostly used Drag City as an outlet for his more conventional side.

Eureka, his second Drag City album, runs the gamut from lounge-pop, to finger-picked meditations, to lush orchestral pieces, with just the right kind of experimental flourishes to keep it interesting from start to finish.

This is the kind of album you can get lost in. It works as a deep listen just as well as background music. O’Rourke releases this kind of traditional fare so seldom - be sure to enjoy it when he does!
