(Counter Culture Coffee - Durham, NC)
We're pleased to be introducing our very first fresh crop Kenyan coffee from Counter Culture. A collection of coffees from the central and eastern provinces of Kenya, the Kushikamana represents the result of collaboration between historically disparate small-farm owners. These historically independent growers chose the name Kushikamana, which means "connected" in Swahili, to highlight their ambitious initiative to work together to improve coffee quality. Working together discussing and testing new growing techniques these farmers have managed to produce a very dynamic coffee featuring both the classic complex profile from Kenya - blackcurrant, citrus, and savory notes - while offering a clarity not often found in Kenyan coffees.
